Introducing| Weapons of Reason 2 Words :
We introduced Weapons of Reason (WoR), a magazine to turn knowledge into action, at the time of the launch of its first issue in 2015 (re-visit here). It was also one of the first few magazines that went up on our online store, now SOLD OUT.
Late last year WoR, an eight-issue publishing venture ‘to understand and articulate the interconnected global issues shaping our world’, released its second issue dedicated to ‘Megacities’. The WoR team sent us a few copies to share with our readers and with this post we intend on doing just that! Get a glimpse of the ‘Megacities’ issue below and if you like what you see, pick up a FREE copy of the issue (limited copies available) on our online store here and spread the good word! You are welcome.
The 'Megacities (Bloom or Bust?)' issue suitably highlights how today half of humanity now lives in cities and considerable number from amongst them in the megacities (i.e. metropolises with a population of ten million or more). The blind movement of people from rural area to urban environments is changing how we live in more ways than one – demonstrating the best and worst of humanity. On the one hand there is innovation and high standard of living while on the other crime, poverty and issues of mental heath abound. In this issue, among other stories read:
Lonely in Tokyo - Solitude and suicide, profound problems in Tokyo.
“A city that grew from a sleepy fishing village to a metropolis overnight” – a tag line that introduces Shenzhen (China).
History of Dhaka’s garments industry.
Migration to Karachi.
Cyber crime in Brazil.
Beautifully illustrated and interspersed with the intelligent and thought provoking info-graphics which are amongst the defining hallmarks of WoR, this issue is a must read if you care about your surroundings.
Pick your copy here – we have only a limited number of these copies available, so scurry along.
