A round-up of design events happening this month in cities around the country

The shortest month of the year is packed with events and festivals for design enthusiasts. Here’s what to look forward to this February.

Protest Fest, Bangalore

Organised by The Sketchup, a collective founded by illustrator Madhvanthi Mohan, this day-long fest will include art exhibits, a panel discussion on protests, a fundraising table and more centred around dissent. Saturday February 1, 2020. Entry Free. More here.

St+art Chennai 2020

St+art India heads to Chennai with its month-long festival. 10 national and international artists, like New Delhi-based Osheen Siva, Swiss artist duo Nevercrew and Chennai-based street artist A-Kill will create several public art interventions including murals, workshops and installations. Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, Mumbai

There’s something for everyone at this annual cultural festival. Watch out for the screening of architect Rohan Shivkumar and cinematographer Avijit Mukul Kishore’s Squeeze Lemon in Your Eye on Saturday February 1, an illustrated talk by architect Robert Stephens tracing the evolution of Mumbai’s Coastal Road on Monday February 3, and guided architectural visits to contemporary spaces on Saturday February 8 and Sunday February 9, among other things. DesignxDesign, Delhi

The 10th Annual Exhibition of DesignxDesign, a non-profit venture by Studio IF and Alliance Francaise de Delhi will exhibit works by 20 young designers and creators from around the country. Wednesday January 29, 2020 to Wednesday February 12, 2020. Entry free.

India Design ID, Delhi

The annual design festival comprises an exhibit as well as a symposium, which features talks by leading designers and architects from around the world, like Rossana Orlandi, Rahul Mehrotra, Martand Khosla, and more. Thursday February 13, 2020 to Sunday February 16, 2020. Tickets here, prices vary, visitor pass for ID Exhibit at ₹800 per day, delegate passes for ID Symposium start at ₹3000 per day.

The Urban Village Project Exhibition, Delhi

The Urban Village Project, developed by Space10 and Copenhagen-based EFFEKT Architects, will be exhibited at Space10 Delhi for the first time. It looks at the rapid urbanisation of our cities and invites people to rethink how we design and build our homes. The exhibition will open with a series of talks and discussions on ‘How Can We Create a Liveable and Sustainable City.’ Exhibition from Thursday February 13 to Sunday February 23, 2020. More here. Social Design Festival, Goa

The festival comprises intensive three-day workshops, and a two-day conference, focused on exploring design-driven solutions to social problems, and introducing non-designers from other relevant fields to design thinking. Cartooning Workshop at the Coastwise Marine Festival, Mumbai

Wildlife and design enthusiasts, Rohan Chakravarty, of Green Humour, will be hosting cartooning workshop as part of this marine-focused festival. DWELL 2020, Goa

A workshop hosted by the Charles Correa Foundation in Panjim for architects, designers and students, Dwell 2020 will address issues of urban density and housing. The dialogue will revolve around the design of the Tube House, designed by Correa, which was built in Ahmedabad and later demolished. Wednesday February 26, 2020 to Saturday 29 February, 2020. Lecture on ‘Redevelopment of the Eastern Waterfront (Mumbai)’, Mumbai

This public lecture by architect and president of CEPT University Dr. Bimal Patel, organised by the Urban Design Research Institute, will look at the sustainable development that the institute, along with other institutions, has been working on for over two decades.
