Based out of London, Shelf Heroes is an illustrated film fanzine that celebrates cinema one letter at a time.
The latest issue of this fanzine features illustrations, articles, stories and poetry inspired by movies beginning with the letter 'G'. From classics to more recent times – the zine features movies from as far back as the 1930s and doesn’t discriminate when it comes to genres. Some of the movies that find their way into the issue are The Grand Budapest Hotel, Get Out, Ghost, Goldfinger, Garfield: The Movie and Godzilla.
Shelf Heroes is run by Ben Smith.
A kaleidoscope of colours, images and many, many illustrations – this issue is a bonus if you are also a graphic art fan. Every movie buff can find at least one, if not more, movie or a genre that they will connect with – for instance horror, in our case. Romcom is overrated, if you ask us.
The zine also revisits the cult classic GROSSE POINTE BLANK (1997) and GABRIEL OVER THE WHITE HOUSE a “bizarre political fantasy” released in 1933.
An introduction to Gasman (1998) – a short film by Lynn Ramsay ensured that the film makes it to our next movie night. The zine also features poems and short stories inspired by cinema – offering everything a film fanzine ought to.
